Upgrading to OmniRemote PRO from earlier versions of OmniRemote

First off, a big thank you for purchasing OmniRemote from us. We sincerely value your business and want to do everything possible maintain the investment you made in our product. To that end, we would like to take this opportunity to explain the upgrade path to OmniRemote PRO from older versions of OmniRemote.

As stated in earlier versions of our FAQ document, we said that newer versions OmniRemote would be made available to owners free of charge. This is still true. If you download OmniRemote PRO and enter the registration code issued to you when you registered OmniRemote (v1.171 or earlier), OmniRemote PRO will not expire and will continue to work with most of the new features found in OmniRemote PRO such as:

  • New style menus
  • Improved macro support
  • Improved macro editing
  • Improved button editing
  • Interval timers
  • Improved timers
  • Non-global "Hard Keys"
  • Advanced "Hard Key" support
However, other "Advanced" features such as:
  • Multiple database support
  • High resolution screen and color display support
  • Screen and button backgrounds with selectable button styles
require a newer registration code in order to be accessed.

The reason for this is simple. OmniRemote PRO is nothing like is predecessor. Sure, it has a similar look and feel of the classic OmniRemote, but that is where the similarities end. OmniRemote PRO is new from the ground-up. New PalmOS hardware and new features necessitated a complete rewrite of the OmniRemote codebase that took more than a year to complete . The result? A professional-grade product found nowhere else. Hence the name: OmniRemote PRO.

Because we want to help protect the investment you made in OmniRemote, we provide most of the new features of OmniRemote PRO to you free of charge. (Just enter your old registration code into OmniRemote PRO to access all of the new non-advanced features.) We did this because we feel that it is our obligation to provide our customers a product that works with the latest hardware and PalmOS versions. This means that a customer who bought OmniRemote three years ago (when the Palm Pilot had no backlight and came with only 512K of RAM) could download OmniRemote PRO and install it on their Handspring Visor (with 16 MEG of RAM and wireless communication ability) for free.

However, to help offset the costs of completely redeveloping OmniRemote to a PROfessional grade level, we require a new registration code to access the "Advanced" features of OmniRemote PRO.
